Cinnamon and honey carry over into the finish, and are joined by a sweet maple sugar note. Warming and medium in length, it caps the sip off nicely, maintaining the overall balance presented by this bourbon.
"Larceny is a very solid, classic bourbon for the money. Banana bread aromas (bananas, sugar and nuts) on the nose with more oak spice on the tongue. It's more on the sweet side of the bourbon spectrum" - Amanda Schuster, Distiller
Larceny Kentucky Straight Bourbon pays homage to both John E. Fitzgerald's superb taste and the legacy of the Old Fitzgerald brand. Made from a mash of corn, wheat, malted barley and rye, Larceny Bourbon carries on the tradition of Old Fitz by using wheat as the bourbon's secondary grain rather than rye. As a result, Larceny Bourbon has a sweeter, softer flavor profile as compared to bourbons that use rye as their secondary grain. After the grains are milled, they are cooked in Kentucky limestone water and fermented using a proprietary strain of yeast.Following fermentation, the mash is distilled through 70-foot tall column stills and the resulting bourbon is aged in honey barrels for six to twelve years. After aging, the casks are blended and brought to 92 proof before being bottled. The resulting bourbon has notes of sweet corn, honey, vanilla and light cinnamon, along with a hint of oak and rye that provides for a subtle edge.Larceny Bourbon earned a score of 93 points at the Ultimate Spirits Challenge in 2013, and a score of 93 points from Wine Enthusiast. In addition, it was named one of the top 20 spirits in the world by F. Paul Pacult's Spirit Journal and named a "Best Buy" by Whisky Magazine. Quite simply, Larceny Kentucky Straight Bourbon is a steal.
Larceny is a brand new bourbon to hit the shelves, coming from the Old Fitzgerald distillery (Heaven Hill) from small batches of six year old Kentucky Straight Bourbon casks. Larceny's mashbill features wheat as its secondary grain, making it softer and smoother compared to the more peppery rye-heavy bourbons. The nose is immediately toffee'd, with fresh bread, vanilla and butterscotch. The palate is rich in mouthfeel, with more caramel and buttery flavours, leading into a long finish. Please note this is a 750ml bottle.
Larceny is a small batch bourbon (100 barrels or less) of barrels from the middle three floors of the aging warehouse. The barrels that go into each batch are aged anywhere from 6 to 10 years. It is bottled at 92 proof. I bought this bottle for $23 at a local big box store.
Larceny is packaged in a square, almost hourglass-shaped bottle with a cream label and black wrapper over the cork. Yes, this bourbon is corked, rather than sealed with a screw-top. That it sometimes unusual for a bourbon at this price range. It is, overall, a very attractive packaging, and could be used for a much more expensive product.
Larceny Barrel Proof Small Batch Bourbon is made from a mingling of 6 to 8 year old bourbon that is bottled uncut and without chill filtration. This bourbon honors both the superb taste of this lawless treasury age and the wheated bourbon legacy of the Old Fitzgerald brand. 041b061a72
